In this session, participants will delve into an in-depth exploration of two popular communication apps, TouchChat with WordPower and LAMP Words for Life. Participants will examine the features, settings, and practical application of each app in the educational setting. Strategies for implementation will also be discussed.
Outcomes:
- Describe the specific features of the TouchChat with WordPower and the LAMP Words for Life apps and how they can be tailored to support students with complex communication needs.
- Explain the settings, customization options, and resources available for each app to optimize communication support for students with diverse needs.
- Formulate strategies for effectively integrating these communication apps into daily educational practices to enhance communication and engagement for students with complex communication support needs.
Who Should Attend: This session is geared towards speech language pathologists who work with and plan for students who have complex communication needs (CCN) and who would benefit from a deeper understanding of the features and settings within the TouchChat and LAMP Words for Life application to better support students who may benefit from these applications for communication.
Satisfactory completion requirements:
- Attendance is based on your signature in and out of the session using the QR code. Failure to provide a signature in and out will result in no credit.
- Participants are expected to attend the entire session to earn credit.
- Participants are expected to attend both sessions in their entirety (Part 1 and Part 2) to earn credit.
- Participants are required to complete an exit ticket. Credit is given for completion of the exit ticket, regardless of score.
- Participants must complete an electronic course evaluation within two weeks of the session date to be sent a certificate.

Cost Information: Participation fees for this course offering are included in the overall membership for the Speech and Language / Augmentative and Alternative Communication Support Professionals, Professional Learning Community. The participation fee for attendance in this Professional Learning Community is $800 and includes all materials and content. These fees will be billed directly to the school district that employs the participant after the Professional Learning Community is complete. Individuals are asked to not bring payment to the session.
Cancellation and Refund Information: There is no cancellation fee, though we ask for advance notice to open the spot for another person. TrueNorth reserves the right to cancel any session due to low enrollment. TrueNorth does not charge prior to the start of the offered session. If an individual attends the first day of a learning series but is unable to attend the remaining sessions, the school district that employs the participant is able to designate an alternate person. It is up to the individual no longer attending the program to give their replacement the information learned in the first session.
About the Presenters:
Megan Brown is a licensed speech-language pathologist and a member of the Megan Brown is a licensed speech-language pathologist and a member of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) who currently works as an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Coach for the Integrated-Assistive Technology Services Department. She has extensive experience working with students with complex communication needs ranging from preschool to transition age. She enjoys supporting teams in obtaining and implementing a wide variety of communication supports to bolster communication across the student's day.

Susan Foster is a licensed speech language pathologist and a member of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She currently works as an Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC) coach for the Integrated-Assistive Technology Services Department working with students and their teams in the TrueNorth programs and member districts. Susan has expertise in working with students from early childhood to transition age and supports teams in obtaining and implementing a wide variety of AAC supports and resources.
