CHAMPS: A Proactive and Positive Approach to Classroom Management

Multi-day learning opportunity

This is a two day series. CHAMPS, a framework developed by Safe and Civil Schools, offers a comprehensive classroom management plan that includes proactive, positive, and instructional strategies to address student behavior. Research has demonstrated that manipulating the following five key variables within a classroom management plan will improve student behavior in the classroom: Structure, Teach Behavior Expectations, Observe and Supervise, Interact Positively, and Correct Fluently (STOIC). When implemented, staff are more prepared to teach and effectively respond to student behavior. Within this 2-day training, participants will have opportunities to reflect on current practices, develop STOIC strategies for their setting, and collaborate with other participants. In addition, sessions include group discussion, movement, videos and work time to meet the learning objectives. Attendance for both sessions is required. This training is intended for all general education and special education teachers who are interested in improving classroom management and student behavior, Support Staff and Administrators. COST INFORMATION: Workshop fee* waived for NSSED employees, Member District** employees, and parents of students in our member districts. For individual participants who do not meet the above criteria, certain fees will apply. NSSED reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to low enrollment. *Registration or material fee per participant will be indicated when registering and billed after the session. **Member Districts include: Northbrook 27, Northbrook 28, Sunset Ridge 29, Glenview/Northbrook 30, West Northfield 31, Glenview 34, Glencoe 35, Winnetka 36, Kenilworth 38, Lake Bluff 65, Lake Forest 67, Bannockburn 106, Deerfield 109, North Shore 112, Township HS 113, Lake Forest 115, New Trier 203, Glenbrook 225.
