Are your students expected to read text based materials - articles, texts, websites, etc. in your class? Reading instruction is not just for the ELA classrooms. Helping students become strategic readers is the responsibility of all teachers in every subject at every grade level. This session will explore evidence based instructional pre, during and post reading strategies to support student understanding for general education students and those with mild disabilities. Technology options that can be used with these strategies will be explored for iPads, Chromebooks and laptop computers using the Google Chrome Browser. Participants will be provided with resources to help them implement these strategies with students. Participants should bring a laptop computer (Mac or PC) or a Chromebook and power cord (if needed) with access to their Google Drive account. Participants should also bring an iPad that has the latest operating system installed, a charger for the iPad (if needed) if they are working with or supporting students using an iPad. At the end of this session, participants will be able to: Recognize the importance of providing explicit instruction in reading strategies across content areas. Identify 2 reading strategies to implement/further implement or support. Identify 1-2 tool options to utilize with students during the use of these strategies.
